Hello People. Our Chamber's new Director, Holly Gemme, insists that I, Raymond Wright as founder of the National Chamber of Commerce for Women in Elder Care, do a blog page. Looking for a diversity of opinion on this topic of Elder Care, I must confess that Holly's opinions quite differ from mine. Holly's background draws on her day in and day out work with the families of the elderly and the elderly themselves. She also works with all the professionals that assist such families and their elderly clients. My background as far as concern for the elderly goes draws on two sensibilities. First and foremost the reality that was what my middle brother described me as in one of his letters, "the closest" to our mother. The second sensibility is simply or not so simply the commandment, "honor thy father and thy mother". My blog therefore will try to share with you my appreciation and hopefully my growing understanding of how that commandment should inform or should shape everything that our society does for it's elderly and everything that as individuals we do or should do for the elderly. Every religion has that same commandment or some form of that commandment. The sad fact of the matter is "honoring thy father and thy mother" wouldn't have to be a commandment if it came easily and naturally. But evidently its a difficult thing to do for individuals and for our society. I can't promise this blog is going to make it easier but we will share with you some work tested proven ways of doing the right thing in terms of self sacrifice and dedication "some call that love" for the people that brought us into the world.
